Stephanie Pan

Persona (2006)

Computer Aided Breathing

A persona, in the word's everyday usage, is a social role, or a character played by an actor. The word derives from the Latin for “mask" or “character", derived from the Etruscan word “phersu", with the same meaning.

Persona was written especially for Stephanie Pan and evolved from a long collaborative process of workshopping material together in order to develop a series of actions, sound gestures and strategies that we were then able to draw upon for this performance. The electronics consist entirely of recordings of Stephanie’s voice in various configurations (with the only processing being some ring modulation), which were then combined and composed into various “scenes" that make up the larger scale work.
